Moses Itauma discusses navigating the intense hype surrounding his undefeated status and potential heavyweight championship, emphasizing authenticity and mental resilience over external validation. He shares insights on his multicultural identity, the influence of family heritage on his fighting spirit, and the valuable advice he has received from legends like Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury regarding career management and personal conduct.
“With boxing, you train to get lucky. So, like it's like every time you do a training session, every time you try to catch them 1%, it's it's like you can never solidify yourself as a winner. Um it's just you kind of train to get lucky and like like the more you train the lucky you get, but there's always a chance you might go into the ring and you just be unlucky.”
“I don't actually want to be under the bright lights, but with the way I'm going, it looks like I ain't got no choice.”
“Second's the first loser. Um, I don't really want I don't really want to have that claim [of being second youngest heavyweight champion]. It's more of the fact that I just want to show people that I'm able to do things at such a young age.”
“Both of them [Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua] actually said get yourself a good lawyer. Um that's probably the first thing that came to my mind. But um but yeah... Anthony Joshua... said focus on your boxing because that's ultimately priority... mentally it could [be affected] if you start going off doing this and start going off doing that.”
“My dad... wanted to discuss the tactics with them... 'you have to give him a hard punch in round one. So in round 10 he cannot he cannot stand just like that... you must attack the body to slow him down and then you finish it off.'”
